Yes, you must confirm that the jumper setting of your topical HD matches the setting of the HD you are removing. There are three settings, Master, Slave and Cable Select. Most of the time, manufacturer configure their C: drive as Master and the CD/DVD ROM drives as Slave, but new HDs from companies close to Maxtor, Western Digital and Seagate tend to configure their HDs as Cable Select. If you replace a Master configured HD with a Cable Select HD, you will hold a 50/50 chance that it will work (Cable Select vehicle the primary and secondary drive are determined by their physical placement on the ribbon cable, and if you place the contemporary drive on the slot where a Slave drive (CD/DVD) already is, the computer won't spot either drive. Best entry to do is just meeting the settings of the new drive next to that of the old drive.
You should other check the jumper setting because you never know what the entrepreneur has set it for. Generally, it is set for single drive but I own replaced harddrives that were set for slave drive earlier installation.
