install burning software to burn

no drive will read a blank cd because here is nothing to read
try a differnet brand of blank cd. Sounds approaching your cd doesnt support the brand you have.
Using WMP? Blue Ray technology and DRM will shut that down, and they can. Why? lead to you don't own that OS, you never did, you never can.

Get Linux or Win2k, and never go above SP3.

Or it could be a missing or indelicately installed driver. Download the latest drivers for that part, print out the How to Install this driver, usually says Old driver must be Un-Installed for this one to work, and give directions how to do that, some can be upgraded, depends on alot of different dlls and other junk.
